Musician

Starting as a singing drummer in his pre-teens, Kernel played in many local bands in the upper Westchester area above New York City.   During his time at Penn State, he became more involved with heavy harmony, more folk-oriented performance as singer-songwriters like Joni Mitchell and bands like Crosby, Still, Nash and Young were really blossoming.

After graduating from University, Kernel lived briefly in NYC and joined an 8-Piece horn band called Wilderness that played all around Manhattan and along the Jersey and Connecticut coast.

In the mid-70’s a Southern Rock band called Quickdraugh became Kernel’s musical focus for over a decade before his relocation to Galway, Ireland.

In November of 1992 on a trip back to New York for Thanksgiving, Kernel bought his first guitar and on returning to Galway began lessons at the Arts Center with Kevin MacNicholas — who would become his musical companion in a two-piece called Sunday Drivers for the next 10 years.

After Kevin and his wife had their 5th child, he hung up his gigging shoes and Kernel transitioned into his own act:  1Solo1 which he continued until his return to the USA in 2006. You can check out the website for this musical endeavor here:   1Solo1.com
